Taco is just a simple hamster with big dreams, waiting for his family to return from vacation... until some alien force begins to animate objects around the house and cause destruction! Armed with an aptitude for crafting, various costumes, and an enormous heart, Taco must defend his home from the evil that's taking over.
I served as the primary UI Artist on the team for Taco: Hamster Hero, including creating UI Assets, implementing the layouts and visuals into the project, and assisting with engineering for UI display-related tasks.
Going into this design, I wanted it to feel as if Taco himself had made the UI without losing legibility. To capture the DIY style and 90's/00's aesthetic in the interface, I opted to design a set of frames and decals that evoked early handheld tech and various crafting materials. This modular approach allowed me to get more bespoke for individual screens without ballooning the amount of UI Assets in the game.
